House Committee Calls for Higher Tariffs on Chinese Drones

Also recommends U.S. drone incentives in a letter to the administration.

Representatives of the House China Committee wrote a letter to administration officials on Wednesday urging President Biden’s administration to increase tariffs on drones made in China and offer financial incentives to boost domestic drone manufacturing.

Committee Chair Mike Gallagher and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi were joined by 11 other panel members in this letter written to the U.S. Trade Representative and the Departments of Commerce and Homeland Security. They intend for the tariffs to “stop the mass proliferation of a technology in the U.S. market that poses a clear national and economic security threat.”

Currently, drones made in China are subject to a 25 percent tariff. The legislators say this tariff is “insufficient to combat the surge” in imports.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of Congress as they seek to prevent covert surveillance by China through imported technology.
  • For the U.S. trade representative and secretaries of commerce and homeland security as they consider the legislators’ request for increased tariffs.
